Oil painting of a marble sculpture of a woman with curled hair leaning forward, against a black background

The Witch (2025) – 46 x 61 cm

The Witch, Medusa. A painting in acrylics and oils on Arches fine grain water colour paper, 300 g/m². Based on drawings of the marble statue titled “Die Hexe” by Carl Cauer (1874). Medusa, a Gorgon in Greek mythology is often portrayed as an evil, malevolent, dangerous monster. However recently she has gained reverence as an icon of feminine power. Her portrayal merely told through the perspective of a male narrator. A woman that can fight back? A woman with the power to say no? She must be a witch.
